Anthony Glover is a member of the University of Sydney Medical School where he is an Associate Professor of Surgery and the Program Director, Master of Surgery. He participates regularly in multidisciplinary team meetings for thyroid cancer and endocrine tumours and works closely with endocrinologists and the healthcare team to provide care for his patients.
In addition to clinical care, Anthony leads programs in thyroid and adrenal cancer research, surgical research and education. He holds research, teaching and academic positions with the University of Sydney and previously worked with the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and University of NSW. For his research Anthony has been awarded multiple prizes, research fellowships and grants for endocrine and thyroid cancer projects including from the NHMRC and Cancer Institute NSW. He is a regular speaker at national and international meetings on endocrine diseases, cancer research and education.
Anthony holds a number of leadership positions including as the Program Director, Master of Surgery with Sydney Medical School, Committee Member of the RACS Endocrine Surgery Section and Research & Evaluation Committee and Steering Committee Member of the Australian and New Zealand Thyroid Cancer Registry. He is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and member of the Australian Medical Association, Australian and New Zealand Endocrine Surgeons and International Association of Endocrine Surgeons.
Anthony completed general surgical training at St Vincent's Hospital (Sydney) in 2011, followed by clinical fellowships in Surgical Oncology with the Royal Marsden Hospital (London) and further training in Endocrine Surgery with the University of Sydney Endocrine Surgical Unit. He then was appointed as a consultant general surgeon at Mona Vale Hospital (Sydney) and subsequently obtained a doctorate (PhD) in the molecular biology of adrenal cancer with the Cancer Genetics Laboratory of the Kolling Institute of Medical Research, University of Sydney.
Following his PhD he was awarded an NHMRC Neil Hamilton Fairley Fellowship allowing him to gain post-doctoral research experience at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (New York) in the thyroid cancer laboratory of the endocrinologist-scientist Jim Fagin and with the Garvan’s Cancer Genomic Medicine program with oncologist-scientist David Thomas.
Following his post-doc in New York he was appointed as a consultant surgeon at Royal North Shore Hospital (Sydney) in 2018 and was appointed as an Associate Professor with Sydney Medical School in 2021. In 2024, he was appointed as the Head of Medicine at St Andrew's College within the University of Sydney and in 2025 was appointed as a Associate Professor in Surgery (Education Focused Specialist Practitioner) with Sydneuy Medial School.
Anthony leads an active research group and works closely with a number of leaders in Endocrine Cancer research. He supervises a number of PhD and medical students and doctors undertaking research projects. In 2022 he was recognised for his work in research by award of a NSW Premier’s Award for Outstanding Cancer Research.
